What is a Trigger Point?
A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that refers pain to other parts of the body. For example, a trigger point in your lower back may produce pain or discomfort down your leg. The trigger point in the lower back now may be the exact location or source of our pain.
What is it like?
Trigger point therapy goes through cycles of various pressure and release. The person receiving the trigger points need to be involved to indicate on amount of pressure and identifying any radiating pain. We also always encourage the patient to breath deeply throughout the process.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of trigger point therapy are releasing tension in the muscles. This decrease in tension in the muscles will in turn help decrease our pain. You can experience a significant decrease in pain after just one treatment. Trigger point therapy is also a useful tool for Dr. Janssen to locate and diagnose our underlining condition.
