Shoulder pain and rotator cuff issues happen to many people. The shoulder in a very moblie joint but it is a very unstable joint. The rotator cuff muscles, which are a group of muscles that hold the top part of the arm call the humeral head in place during movements. If these muscles become imbalanced or dysfunctional the shoulder has altered movement which results in irriation and sometimes inflammation. Frequently patients we see have shortness in the chest muscles which lead to the upper arm and the posterior shoulder muscles being overworked. This stooped posture (with the shoulders rolled forward) is very common and sets us up for shoulder and neck symptoms.
